Jerusalem – Israeli News Broadcast Peers into Hidden World of Toldos Aharon

Jerusalem – Israel’s Channel 10 broadcast last night (Tuesday) a highly publicized feature report on the inner workings of Toldos Aharon, the highly secluded Chassidus has been under the spotlight following the “starving mother” case and the demonstrations against the opening of the Karta parking lot on Shabbos.

The news channel sent reporter Yisrael Rosner on an extended assignment to uncover the hardline anti-Zionist kehilloh in Jerusalem’s Meah Shearim neighborhood.

Predictably, the report stressed the more extreme side of Toldos Aharon, which numbers some 1,000 families, interviewing chassidim who were largely ineffective in conveying the group’s attributes: the Rebbe’s warmth and the open arms extended to converts, the newly religious and others in need of support.

The report dwelled on the strict takonos all Toldos Aharon chassidim must sign and follow, including thick, black stockings for ladies, no secular reading, davening only in the Toldos Aharon beis medrash, shidduchim that keep members with the community, etc. Someone raised as a Toldos Aharon chassid who fails to keep the takonos is not allowed to step foot on the beis medrash premises once he marries.
