Manhattan, NY – Police have recovered some of the jewelry stolen in a fatal Madison Avenue store heist and are talking to a person in connection with the case.
Police wouldn’t characterize the person as a suspect in the armed robbery and shooting.
An armed robber fired once and killed 71-year-old Orthodox Syrian Jew, Henry Menahem at the store Jan. 27.
Meanwhile the NY Post is reporting that detectives were questioning a suspect and recovered nine of the 66 pieces stolen from the store in Brooklyn today and believed they may have come from the $1.2 million heist, sources said.
That led them to the Washington Heights suspect. Investigators were waiting for a search warrant to see if more jewelry was hidden in the house.
Investigators were mulling going to “America’s Most Wanted” to help jumpstart the case, but are hopeful they have they are now close to solving the crime.
Police released a sketch of the robber and have asked anyone with information to call their tips hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
