New York, NY – Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat says he will run in the New York City marathon to promote Israel’s capital as a top destination for tourists, his office said.
“I am excited to be running this year’s New York City Marathon. In Jerusalem we are focused on returning Jerusalem to its historic role as an international destination site for tourists and pilgrims … . Jerusalem and New York City have a special relationship and I look forward to engaging with our friends in New York city again while here,” his office quoted Barkat saying.
Barkat is no stranger to marathon running and runs from his Jerusalem home to his office in the city’s downtown area several times a week, his office said. The New York City marathon is Nov. 1.
Mary Wittenberg NYRR President and CEO said New York welcomes Barkat to the marathon which defines the spirit and energy of the American city, a statement released by Barkat’s office said.
